Brush Fires Spark in Haddam Over the Weekend

The Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to multiple brush fires over the May 4-5 weekend.

Members of Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to reports of a brush fire behind a residence on Foot Hills Road near the Haddam/Durham border at about 12:30 p.m. on May 5.

The Fire Company set up a water storage tank while crews on foot used portable water tanks to knock down the fire and extinguish hot spots on about one acre of scorched woods. Haddam Fire was toned out for additional manpower and the Durham Fire Department assisted with a brush truck. The fire was extinguished and crews were released.

At about 2:30 p.m., reports of a “rekindle” (still under investigation) near the same property were toned out, and crews from Haddam and Durham fought for several hours to extinguish the new blaze.

On May 5, members of Haddam Fire responded to and extinguished another brush fire in the vicinity of Dish Mill Road.
