The major function of the Killingworth Historical Society is to "discover and collect any material which may helpMore to establish or illustrate the history of the area its exploration, settlement, development and activities in peace and in war; its progress in population, wealth, education, arts, science, agriculture, manufacturers, trade and transportation."

The society collects printed material including biographies, catalogs, circulars, descriptions, directories, gazetteers, geneologies, handbills, histories, newspapers, pamphlets, posters, programs; manuscripts such as account books, charts, diaries, field books, journals, letters, reminiscences, rosters, service records, surveys, field books; and museum material such as aboriginal relics, paintings, photographs, pictures, portraits, scenes, and material objects illustrative of life, events, conditions, and activities of the present and past.

The society also undertakes the preservation of historic buildings, markers and monuments.

The Historical Society's headquarters is presently the Blackrock Schoolhouse on Recycle Way. A 99-year lease agreement was signed in 2010 between the town and the Society for the Parmelee Farmhouse, located at 465 Route 81. The farmhouse is currently undergoing restoration and will eventually be the new headquarters of the society as well as a museum open to the public.

Dogs can "hang out," so it's kind of like a day care with the added benefit of the client leaving looking neat, clean, beautiful (or handsome) and adorable.

Patel finds the customers to be quite happy, regardless of whether they are picking up a sandwich from the market's deli, groceries, newspapers, DVDs, greeting cards, or baked goods prepared on site. The lion's share of customers come for the deli sandwiches. There is also a post office on-site.

Killingworth Feed also offers high-end dog and cat food, toys, treats, and gifts for humans.

Head baker Walter Stefanovics was trained at the Vienna Baking Institute in Austria. The bakery is family-run (Walter's daughter Wendy Clason owns the place and Mrs. Stefanovics works there too) and is exactly what you'd dream of in a real bakery -- cozy, comfortable, spotless, friendly and absolutely delicious!

Killingworth Community Gardens

The Killingworth Community Gardens provide residents with an opportunity to come together for the purpose of foodMore production, environmental education and to encourage multi-generational gatherings. The gardens include 62 garden plots surrounded by a fence. Individuals and groups at all levels of gardening expertise are welcome. Guided tours are available by appointment.

The gardens are located at Parmelee Farm, just north of the HK Middle School. The 132-acre town-owned property is open to the public for recreation. The 19th century farmhouse as well as most the outdoor buildings are not open at this time. The small shed adjacent to the front garden is available for storage. Parking is available in front of the farmhouse as well as in front of the gardens.

The Community Gardens are administered by the Town Municipal Land Use Committee.

Credence Edge Farm offers horse boarding in a scenic and peaceful setting. This quiet seven stall barn is found on aMore property adjacent to a state forest used for trail riding. There is no better location for trail riding because of the access to both the forest and Chatfield Hollow State Park.

Credence Edge Farm offers full board, including stalls cleaned each morning, fresh bedding is provided, hay and water are fresh all day long, and grain is fed in the morning and evening.

The owner, Susan Flynn of Flynn Associates Real Estate, lives on site and has her real estate business in the barn. Flynn is willing to work with those who desire rough board or a combinations. Arrangements will be made if it means people can have a horse.
