So sorry to see institutions like this go out of business. I can remember when my parents moved to…Read More East Lyme from Fairfield Country they would venture up there to buy bread and hard rolls as my mom said... "no one makes rolls and bread up here like they did down towards NYC" but Colchester Bakery did. I am amazed with their long standing reputation that the business could not be sold to someone. Too bad, it is our loss.

I am so sad. The huge pumpernickel was so special to us. I've sent the gigantic bread to my son in…Read More Los Angeles for his birthday on several occasions, too. He loved it, as did his whole neighborhood! We'll miss Colchester Bakery dearly. Happy retirement.

I agree! I always thought they were licensed due to using needles on the client's skin. A friend of…Read More mine that lives in another state has diabetes and she has to first get clearance from her dr and the tatoo artist has to work on her when nobody is in his shop due any blood borne pathogens that can go onto somebody else and her higher risk of infection from her diabetes.
Personally I don't think she should take the risk but her dr is aware of it in case he needs to call in a perscription for antibiotics right away. I know I wouldn't want to catch something from her due to the precautions that needs to be taken prior to her getting it done.

I agree with Chuck. If the carriers promised it, and the State acted in good faith on that promise,…Read More it should be the carrier that bears the responsibility. We waste so much taxpayer money as it is....

Why are we paying state workers $100 a piece for them to take advantage of a health plan in the…Read More first place? It should be offered and they either take advantage of it or not. I don't know of any other business that pays their employees to think about joining a health care program or anything else. And we wonder why we are so far in debt as a state.

Um... WHEN did state employees actually get paid for this? I do not know of any payout ever actually…Read More having taken place. Moreover, this article given no indications as to when and how state employees were supposedly "paid" this ghost benefit

I am surprized that we were ranked as high as we were! CT is not only bad for business but bad for…Read More living here in general. Between higher taxes and general costs we are looking at moving to another state when we retire so we don't outlive the money we have and then need to go on public assistance.

This ranking is just a reflection of liberal/progressive philosophy adapted by the Democratic Party.…Read More Which is a large government supported by the taxes on the private sector in order for the government to address the social issues of the citizens. This system has never proven to work throughout history. A small government, low taxes leads to business prosperity and improved living conditions for all. If there are any social problems, they can and will be addressed without the government involvement. In every instance the private sector, does the same functions quicker and cheaper than a government run program.

I can't imagine paying an employee $8.25 per hour. We start our pay at $10 and increase it as fast…Read More as the employee progresses.

There should be no such thing as a minimum wage. The employer and the employee should have the right…Read More to agree on a wage acceptable to each of them.

This isn't complicated. The two Connectcut casinos made scads of money when they had a monopoly,…Read More but only a blind man couldn't have seen what was coming. If 1/3 of Foxwood's slot revenue was from Mass. then Mass residents were dropping damned near a billion into those slots. Who would not grasp that sooner or later the politicians in Mass. weren't going to ask why they were letting all that money leave the state?
The Mohegans have been careful with their windfall but the so-called Pequots have squandered most of theirs and stolen a lot more. His judgment cometh and that right quickly.

Even Mass will be taking on a BIG challenge, as there is only so much money out there and he…Read More "money Pit" is running out or cash. People don't have the jobs they once had when Fox woods and Mohicans were in their prime. This in itself is going to be a Big gamble.

Bad enough Millstone is storing their own waste. We do not want other reactor waste at a facility on…Read More our waterways. Shouldn't this be put up to a vote by citizens of CT?
