Nothing beats fresh fruits and vegetables on a beautful summer day, and buying your produce from a local farm is even better. Over the past 20 years, farmer's markets in Connecticut have exploded in both numbers and popularity and it seems like more people choose to buy their strawberries, lettuce and tomatoes at local markets than these days.

So where is your favorite farmer's market in all of Middletown, Haddam, East Haddam, Durham, Middlefield, Killingworth, Portland and East Hampton? You nominated your favorite, now it's time to vote!

Here's the list of nominees:

Higganum Farmers Market
Clinton Farmers Market

Register your opinion in the poll below anytime between June 23 through Aug. 17. We'll announce the winners in late August.

I've never been to Durham but I think it would be my favorite as they get a Vegan Food Truck to come to it. That said, I went to East Haddam today and it was fantastic!!!! I bought loads of produce. They had grass fed/humanely raised beef/ pork as well as honey/syrup and handmade items. I was pleasantly surprised. They even had a guy with a guitar playing for everyone.

If you haven't come to the Durham Farmers' Market yet, tomorrow's a great opportunity to see GMonkey in action! Mark and Ami are terrific, and so are all of the vendors! Check out our weekly Farmers' Market blog Thursday morning for a preview of what's new this week. In the meantime, here's a behind-the-scenes look at GMonkey http://patch.com/A-hkkv
