Security, Facility Upgrades on Schedule at Haddam-Killingworth Schools

The numerous facility and security upgrades are on schedule for Haddam-Killingworth Schools, and should be complete by Labor Day weekend.

Both security upgrades and facilities work that took place over this summer are scheduled to be complete by the end of the Labor Day break at all of the Haddam-Killingworth schools. According to Board of Education member Jamie Lehane, who discussed the progress at this week's Board meeting, numerous projects were tackled over the summer.

"We've completed and are winding down with several projects at several of the schools," Lehane said. " Replacement of window glass at HKHS and HES is underway and will be completed prior to school opening Sidewalk repairs at HKHS will start soon and the Burr Elementary School Boiler project will start in several weeks.

Lehane stated selective re-carpeting and cleaning has been completed at HES and BES.

"All of our playgrounds have also been inspected, and repairs are being worked on," Lehane also stated. "The broken swing at Killingworth Elementary School has been replaced."

The Security Systems Surveillance System Upgrade work is on schedule as well.  The last phase of the project is scheduled to begin next week.

BOE member Sue Twachtman stated that there was only one security project that was currently postponed.

"The Bankers window at Haddam Elementary School has been postponed for a short period of time," Twachtman stated. "There has to be extensive rearranging and moving of things like mailboxes and furniture in order for that project to be complete."

Lehane concluded by saying that he would like to build a cycle of maintenance and upkeep that would include identifying projects as the year progresses and checking in more than just annually with needed projects. He said that he hopes to work closely with Mike Distefano to accomplish this.
