RSD17 BOE Passes Budget with a 0% Increase Over Last Year's Budget

The Board of Education of Regional School District 17 passed its 2013-2014 budget last night.

The Regional School District 17 Board of Education budget for the 2013-2014 school year passed at the Board of Education meeting Monday night. The total proposed budget of $37,886,401.58 was approved and reflected a 0% increase over the 2012-2013 school year budget.

"The Board was able to work well as a team, along with the Superintendent, to come up with some measures that tighten the Superintendent's budget, without affecting any programming or the students," said Board Chair Karen Perry.

"This year, for the first time, the Board examined both prior budget years and prior expenditures for a number of years on one chart - in considering what amount was appropriate to budget for the coming fiscal year."

The Board, according to Perry, is "hopeful that the taxpayers will support our proposed 0 % increase."

The budget will go to referendum in Haddam and Killingworth on May 7, 2013.
