Killingworth Resident Named National Merit Commended Student

The following information was provided by Beth Griffin, Director of Public Relations, Sacred Heart Academy:

Sacred Heart Academy Principal Sr. Maureen Flynn, ASCJ, ’81 announced today that Mary Campbell Disbrow of Killingworth, Olivia Kelly of Huntington, and Madeline Ross of Shelton have been named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by Sister Maureen to these scholastically talented seniors.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. These students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 PSAT.

 “The young people named Commended Scholars have demonstrated outstanding academic potential by their strong performance in this highly competitive program. We hope that this recognition will enhance their educational opportunities and that they will continue to diligently pursue their professional goals,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC.
