HKHS Valedictorian: 'I Wouldn't Want to Live Anywhere Else in the World"

The graduating class of 2013 celebrates their big night!

It was hot and humid on Monday night for Haddam-Killingworth High School Graduation, but family and friends filled the outdoor tent to join the senior class for their big moment.

After processing in to the traditional "Pomp and Circumstance," and the singing of the National Anthem, Class Leader Stephen Bogdan welcomed guests to the ceremony. After Salutatorian Carter Sullican and Superintendent Howard J. Thiery, III addressed the class, Valedictorian Peter Brandon took the stage.

Brandon started his speech joking that he wished he live in California; "Or Old Saybrook, At least they have a bowling alley," the senior said. But, Brandon said he knew it was because of this town, and the people in it, he, and his fellow graduates are who they are today.

"Like it or not, this is where we grew up," he said. "Think about all our involvement in this community, with organizations, sports, and more... This experiences make us who we are, and it's because of this beautiful, supportive community that we are those people... As I truly reflect on my experiences here at HKHS... I must say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world."

The night also included a performance by Alix Jansma and Nick LeMontagne of "Can't Go Back Now," by the Weepies, and of course the presentation of diploamas and the official declaration of the graduation of the class of 2013.
