Two Hour Delay For Killingworth Schools Wednesday

It's back to school on Halloween for Killingworth students, just two hours later than usual.

The power is out for most of Killingworth residents, but it's back to school for students on Wednesday, October 31 with a two hour delay.

According to the Region 17 schools website, schools will be open on Wednesday October 31st with a two hour delayed opening in all schools.

The district website states, "there are still many trees down across our district and we want to wait until after sunrise to begin busing students so that drivers can see and navigate safely around obstructions. We are aware that there may be a small number of roads that are blocked and are not accessible to buses. Our bus company will be in touch if your road can not be accessed. If your child can not be bused and can not make it to school this will be an excused absence."

"This decision is based on the fact that our schools are ready for students and that based on today's assessments the vast majority of students in the district can safely get to school. I hope that all of you are warm and dry and either have electricity or will have it very soon. I have been in touch with state, town and utility officials today and have every reason to believe that they are working hard to restore services.  I look forward to seeing students tomorrow throughout our schools." -  Howard Thiery, Superintendent
