State Sen. Art Linares Appointed to Position on Task Force on Violence

The 33rd District Republican, whose district includes East Haddam, was chosen to serve on a school safety subgroup for the new task force that was formed after the Newtown shootings.

 

Appointments to three subgroups within the newly formed Bipartisan Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention and Children's Safety were announced Friday by Connecticut House Speaker Brendan Sharkey (D-Hamden) and other legislative leaders.

whose district includes East Haddam, was appointed to serve on the school safety subgroup of the task force. Linares was elected in November and was sworn in last week on the opening day of the new General Assembly session.

The task force, meanwhile, has scheduled a series of public hearings beginning next week.

The first, focusing on school safety, will be Jan. 25 at 9:30 a.m., at the Capitol. There will also be a gun safety hearing at 10 a.m. on Jan. 28; a hearing on mental health issues at 10 a.m. on Jan. 29,  all in room 2C at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. A fourth public hearing by the task force will be at Newtown High School on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m.
