Rep. Phil Miller’s Campaign Files Finance Report Nearly 2 Months Late

The filing was apparently delayed due to the June resignation of two key campaign finance members.

State Rep. Phil Miller (D) filed a campaign finance report on September 5, 2012 that had been due with the State Elections Enforcement Commission on July 10, 2012, according to a report in Valley News Now

Miller’s filing, the report said, was delayed after his campaign treasurer and deputy treasurer, Carla Feroni and Claire Tiernan respectively, resigned from the positions at the end of June. Feroni and Tiernan are both Essex residents.

Fred Vollono, the Democratic town chairman in Essex, replaced Feroni and Tiernan in July and continues to serve as campaign treasurer as of this report.

Rep. Phil Miller has represented the 36th Assembly District since February of 2011. He is currently running for re-election against Republican nominee Vincent Pacileo of Essex.

The 36th Assembly District includes the towns of Chester, Deep River, Essex and Haddam.

I don't live in the district but I sincerely hope that this race doesn't become a who-filed-what-form-late and who-paid-what-bill-late disgrace like the race for U.S. Senator.

Seems the greater question should be - why did his financial team leave in mass? Seems a bit curious they would both jump ship like that. Anybody else curious?

On the surface this overt flagrant two month delay in meeting the required filing date established by the State Elections Enforcement Commission seems tame, but is it really? Rules are rules. Election laws are written to keep our elections orderly, honest, transparent and fair. People who disregard the rules should be held accountable and have their character called into question especially if they are seeking to be elected as lawmakers. Therein is the disconnect. Miller wants our vote so he can make laws but he has demonstrated, in this case, that election rules and laws don't apply to him. Why not? He won't get my vote. Vin Pacileo will!
