Phil Miller Seeks to Clarify His Position on Haddam Land Swap

Legislator Says he Opposes Exchange But Leaves Door Open for Deal to Happen in Future.

The Hartford Courant has a follow-up to the Haddam land swap story, quoting from a letter by Rep. Phil Miller, D-Essex, with reaction from townsfolk to the news that the deal has been revived.

It appears that this Hartford Courant article is just a rehash of the letter to the HP editor that Miller sent this past weekend. Miller opens the letter with: "I am not in favor of the proposed land exchange idea in Haddam." Yet closes it with: "[The Gateway Commission] feels that if these conditions could be met, then by next year, there could be consideration. I agree with the Gateway Commission." This echoes of his comments from election night as reported in Valley News Now ( http://valleynewsnow.com/2011/02/miller-narrowly-defeats-peckinpaugh-in-race-for-state-house-seat/ ): “We are going to have to under promise and over deliver.” This statement in and of itself demonstrates how a politician plans on getting reelected. How about if Mr. Miller just tells the people what he intends to do, and does it. The political double talk should be left to the professionals.

Yes, "LoveThatDirtyWater," I agree. Let's have it all on the table. Let us have no man behind the curtain. Straight up please... But I think we all know the answers...unfortunately. Connecticut...watch out...you're being sold down the river...

What do I think? Well where do I begin. Philspeak, "I will vote No on Gov. Malloy's budget if there isn't a change in the regressive property tax structure" Does this mean he will vote No on any budget that Gov. Malloy proposes or just this version? Do we expect that he alone will develop the plan to change the regressive property tax? He opposes the land swap in the beginning of the first letter than tells us of how great the Gateway Commission members are. Does that mean he can hide behind their decision? This is how he runs Essex. He doesn't stand on anything, he just reacts to the debacles he creates.

Again, all of us who know and are familiar with the way Phil Miller does business are not surprised by his continued lies and double talk. We tried to let the rest of the people see this with all the comments to different articles, but they only decided to look at the book and not open it up and read it! Of all the towns he now represents, I applaud Haddam for seeing through this doubletalker, unfortunately my town and the others couldn't see through it. Now everyone has to pay, like we have in Essex for years!

Hey Vince, things are tough all over. I imagine if you were to get a load of East Haddams' first selectman you might appreciate Miller alot more. Now I know absolutely Nothing about Miller and were it not for his misguided support of this land swap , I probably wouldn't give him a thought. But GOD help us all if Skid Mark Walter inserts himself into this mess. This incompetant bufoon is a joke. He really is over his head, I mean the only reason he was elected is because people in East Haddam were tired of the staus quo i.e.Brad parker & the democrats (I'm also guilty of voting for him, the first time) but his time to go has come! Again it's time for a change in East Haddam and it doesn't matter if it's a republican or democrat , just hopefully it'll be someone with a FREAKIN' CLUE , someone who wont kiss the Goodspeeds @#s and will be forward thinking yet practicle in their ideas (not spending 25 grand to upgrade the dogpound to accomodate a 6,000.00 per yr. contract w/East Hampton. But see Skid Mark got the O.K from the board of finance because he & Maxwell are tight.(hell skid mark installed him as chairman almost immediately after he was elected) more patronage by the republican selectman, not that the dems were any better when the were in control.

What about moving the food bank to the Grange hall? For only 40K, when we don't even have a plan in place to do anything with the (old high school) Middle school.
