Moodus Reservoir Preservation Group Pursuing Weed Control Options, Non-Profit Status

Following a Summer meeting, MRPG has filed incorporation papers with the Secretary of State that will help them to qualify for IRS Non-profit status.

According to MRPG president, Sam Guy, the group has now filed incorporation papers with the Secretary of State that will let them acquire an official bank account, and with that, is now continuing to pursue IRS Non-profit status, 501 (c) 3. That status will grant them a tax deductible status for donations.

These steps resulted from their well-attended August 1 meeting. That meeting took place after what became a controversial debate over weed control on the lake prompted property owners to gather together to talk about the future of the reservoir.

"In early September, a small group met to plan these actions and how to progress with the Weed Management and Membership Committees," Guy said in an email to Patch. "The Weed Management Committee is interviewing treatment vendors and consultants to determine the best, safest methods to control the fanwort, milfoil and other invasive and intrusive plants. We now have Facebook and e-mail presence."

"Committees are being formed for fund raising, water monitoring and a web site," Guy continued in the email. "We will hold a general meeting to adopt the by-laws and elect corporate officers and directors."
