Letter to the Editor: Rep. Ziobron Seeking Public Input

Speaking with people and learning the real-world application of our laws is the most interesting and most helpful to me.

Seeking Public Input

Last week I joined State Senator Art Linares in hosting two town hall meetings, one in East Hampton and one in East Haddam. These are in addition to the town hall meeting we held in Colchester last month.

I was happy to see such great turnout at both meetings; we had about 100 people attend the two events. The primary goal of the town hall meetings is to give residents an update on issues being discussed at the state capitol and to give people a point of view that one might not get from reading the newspaper; however, I have found that they are a great opportunity for me to listen to you and to learn.

I take pride in the amount of research I do on current and proposed laws but what I learn from reading is only the tip of the iceberg. Speaking with people and learning the real-world application of our laws is the most interesting and most helpful to me. Sometimes lawmakers might not consider or understand how the sales tax affects a consignment shop or how energy proposals will affect local businesses; but you do, and that’s why it is so important for us to keep an open dialogue.

If you were unable to attend our town halls I would still love to hear from you.
