Killingworth Republican Primaries Too Close to Call; Recount Scheduled for Friday

All of races in the Killingworth Republican Primaries resulted in the necessity for a recount, which will be held Friday.

Results for the Killingworth Republican Primary began to come in around 8:10 Tuesday night, but as of right now, there are no definite results. That's because the votes were all too close to call according to Killingworth voting protocol. Lauren Blaha, of the Republican Registrar of Voters, explains:


"Any elected position that has a vote difference of only 20 votes or less in their results must be moved to a recount," Blaha told Patch Tuesday night. "We will have that recount Friday, during with time the registrar will go through all the appropriate documents for recounting and run ballots through an optical scanner."

Currently, there is no specific time on Friday set for the recount. Patch will follow up with results when they become available. 

Right now, prior to to a recount, the unofficial Republican primary results stand as follows:

First Selectman:

  • Matthew Young: 235 Votes
  • Richard Thomas Ross (Killingworth Conservative Party Candidate): 215 Votes
Selectman (voters voted for any two):
  • Fred Dudek: 238 Votes
  • Jeff Yazmer: 198 Votes
  • George F. Hedrick (Killingworth Conservative Party Candidate): 222 Votes
  • John A. Samperi (Killingworth Conservative Party Candidate): 233 Votes
Town Clerk:
  • Deb Butler: 218 Votes
  • Andrea L. Schull: 232 Votes
Board of Finance (voters voted for any two):
  • David Denvir: 236 Votes
  • Shawn O'Connell: 247 Votes
  • Robert Rioja (Killingworth Conservative Party Candidate): 236 Votes
  • Willian T. Silas (Killingworth Conservative Party Candidate): 248 Votes 
Zoning Board of Appeals (voters voted for any two):
  • Les Riblet: 231 Votes
  • Cindy Lou Adametz (Killingworth Conservative Party Candidate): 263 Votes
  • John F. Psenicnik (Killingworth Conservative Party Candidate): 229 Votes
Board of Fire Commissioners:
  • Michael Butler: 231 Votes
  • Daniel John Samperi (Killingworth Conservative Party Candidate): 225 Votes
Regional Board of Education (To Fill Vacancy for Two Years):
  • Jeannie Young: 230 Votes
  • Stacey Derosa Lafferty (Killingworth Conservative Party Candidate): 218 Votes
