High Schooler Could Get Reprieve From Prom Ban

A state lawmaker is mulling legislation that would overturn the ban and could impact schools statewide.

A state legislator is apparently taking up the cause of a who is being barred from the senior prom because he put up a sign on the outside of his high school inviting his girlfriend to the dance.

James Tate has become a media sensation in recent days after administrators at his high school barred him from the prom following the late-night stunt. Now Jason Perillo, D-Shelton, says on his Twitter page that he’s working on a law that would overturn the ban and allow James to attend the prom. Perillo says he's still working on the language of the bill, which could impact decisions schools make in the last 30 days of the school year.
