Haddam Leaders Reject Land Swap Hearing

The petitions were deemed invalid by Town Attorney Bruno R. Morasutti.

 

According to a report by the Middletown Press, Haddam town leaders rejected petitions for a public town hearing on the land swap Wednesday night.

The petition requests a public hearing on the controversial land swap and calls for the  to schedule a town meeting to adopt the following resolution:

“Be it resolved by the Town Meeting of the Town of Haddam, having had ample time to debate and reflect on the consequences of the General Assembly's passage of Special Act 11-16, Section 8, that the town legislature opposes the above described state legislatively mandated conveyance and calls on the General Assembly to immediately repeal Section 8 of Special Act 11-16”

The controversial  would see the state give 17 acres of state-owned land near the Connecticut River to a private developer in exchange for 87 acres of forest land in Higganum.
