DEP Commissioner Urged to Break Land Swap Silence

A legislative committee sent Daniel Esty a letter questioning why he hasn't weighed in on the controversial proposal.

The legislature's Environment Committee is upping the political ante on the Haddam land swap controversy by pressuring Daniel Esty, the Department of Environmental Protection commissioner, to break his silence on the issue and tell the committee what he thinks of it, as reported in this blog

"We do not feel that we can responsibly act on this measure without hearing directly from you" as to "your opinion as to the legal, financial and environmental propriety of the proposed exchange," wrote the three lawmakers -- Rep. Richard Roy, D-Milford, co-chairman the legislature's environment committee, and the two Republican ranking members on the panel, Sen. Andrew Roraback of Goshen and Rep. Clark Chapin of New Milford.

The land swap measure is currently pending before the legislature, which must act on the proposal by tomorrow night.
