Daily Defends Land Deal

The state senator says the Haddam land swap is good for the environment.

Eileen Daily is defending her decision to back the Haddam land swap. In an opinion piece that ran in the Hartford Courant Sunday Daily said the 17.4 acres near the Connecticut River she wants to swap for 87 acres in Higganum is not pristine land and may also be polluted. She also says the swap is good for the town because the 87 acres could be developed into a housing subdivision. In a related story, the Courant also reported that emails from Daniel Esty, commissioner of the state’s Department of Environmental Protection, indicate that Esty was struggling to find ways to avoid answering questions about the deal during heated public debate on the land swap.
