Family: Married to Betsy Johansson Barney, five children and nine grandchildren

EDUCATION:  BA University of Connecticut (History); MA Fairfield University (History); Certificate of Advanced Study Fairfield University (School Admin)

OCCUPATION:  Retired. Previously served as a public school teacher for 44 years in Connecticut from 1990-2009 and a former Principal of the Morgan School in Clinton.

PAST OFFICES HELD: None in East Haddam; but did serve on the Human Rights Commission in Stamford, CT, the Inland Wetlands Commission (Chair) in Brookfield, CT and the School building Committee (Vice Chair) in Brookfield, CT.

PERSONAL STATEMENT: I have spent my adult life in education, working on ways to improve the educational experience for students. As a school administrator, that was my primary mission. If one speaks with those with whom I worked, they will tell you that I was successful in that quest.  It is not money or resources.  It is commitment - the teachers, the students, the parents and mine.  It works.
