Student Brings Stun-Gun to School, DUI, Burglary, Larceny and Violation of Probation

East Haddam area police activity reports.

 

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:


DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Feb.10th at 2:35 a.m., police stopped to investigate a disabled motor-vehicle on Route 66 in Columbia. After the driver failed a series of field sobriety tests, police arrested Brian Gronback, 18, of 26 Powerhouse Road, East Haddam. He was charged with DUI. Gronback was processed at Troop K and later released on a $500 non-surety bond. He was given a court date of 2/28/12 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

CARRYING A DANGEROUS WEAPON - On Feb.10th at 10:40 a.m., East Haddam Police received a report that a student had brought a stun-gun into the Nathan Hale-Ray High School in Moodus. School staff confiscated the weapon and turned it over to police.  No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. The juvenile was arrested, charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Juvenile Court in Middletown on 2/22/12.

BURGLARY AND LARCENY - On Feb. 10th at 5:05 p.m., police arrested two juveniles in connection with an investigation at a Banner Road, Moodus address. The minors had entered a building and removed numerous tools. They were arrested, charged with 3rd-degree burglary and 6th-degree larceny and given a court date of 2/22/12 at Middlesex Juvenile Court in Middletown.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. TREE - On Feb.10th at approximately 6:10 p.m., Matthew Sanchez, 18, of Meadow Drive, Colchester was traveling eastbound on Salem Road, just prior to Alexandria Road in East Haddam, in a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. Sanchez veered off of the right side of the roadway, struck a tree, then continued into the intersection of Salem and Alexandria Roads, where the vehicle finally came to rest. No injuries were reported.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS, POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA AND OPERATING A VEHICLE WITH A HEADLIGHT OUT - On Feb.10th at 9:06 p.m., police stopped a vehicle in the area of Sipples Hill in Moodus, after observing a headlight out. After the officer noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the operator was subjected to a series of field sobriety tests. Adam Franco, 18, of 527 West Thames Street, Norwich subsequently failed the tests and was arrested and charged with the above violations. An undisclosed amount of marijuana was seized as evidence. Franco was processed at Troop K and later released on a $500 non-surety bond. He was given a court date of 2/22/12 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

VIOLATION OF PROBATION AND FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT - On Feb.12th, James Brown, 52, of 155 Bashan Road, East Haddam was arrested pursuant to two warrants, and charged with violation of probation and 2nd-degree failure to appear in court. Brown was held on two separate bonds in the amounts of $30,000 and $5,000, and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 2/14/12.
