Speeding, DUI, Operating with a Suspended License and Motor-Vehicle vs. Tree

East Haddam area police activity reports.

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K report the following incidents:


SPEEDING, OPERATING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE AND DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Nov. 7 at approximately 10:22 p.m., East Haddam police clocked a vehicle on radar traveling along Leesville Road in Moodus at a speed of 62 miles-per-hour in a posted 45 mile-per-hour zone. Steven Downing, 30, of 21 Plains Road, Moodus was pulled over by police and failed the standardized field sobriety tests. Downing was arrested and charged with the above, released on a $1,000 non-surety bond, and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 11/16/11.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. TREE - On Nov. 10 at approximately 2:56 p.m., Matthew Riley, 21, of Schulman-Veselak Road, East Haddam was traveling along Salem Road in East Haddam in a 1998 Ford LGT, when he traveled off the roadway, striking a tree. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene. Police issued Riley an infraction for making an improper turn.

FAILURE TO DRIVE A REASONABLE DISTANCE APART - On Nov. 10 at approximately 5:57 p.m., Harold Oakes, Jr., 64, of Forsyth Road, Salem was traveling northbound on Norwich Road in East Haddam in a 2000 Subaru Legacy and had stopped for pedestrians in the roadway. Joseph Fazzino, 19, of Peters Lane, Rockfall was traveling behind Oakes in a 2007 Chevy Equinox and was unable to stop his vehicle in time, and the vehicles collided. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. Fazzino was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Nov. 13 at approximately 2:39 a.m., Terrence Altomaro, 20, of 117 Wickham Road, East Haddam was arrested in Hebron and charged with failure to obey a stop sign and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Altomaro was released on a $500 non-surety bond and given a court date of 11/30/11 at Manchester Superior Court in Manchester.
