Scrap-Metal Thefts, DUI, Burglary and Larcenies

East Haddam area police activity reports.

 

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:


DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS AND MAKING AN IMPROPER TURN - On Jan. 28 at approximately 7:44 p.m., Timothy McNamara, 54, of 90 Great Hillwood Road, Moodus was involved in a motor-vehicle accident in the area of Routes 16 & 149 in Westchester. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the above violations. Police said that no injuries were reported on scene, but McNamara was transported to the Marlborough Medical Center for evaluation.

FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On Jan. 28 at approximately 11:09 p.m., John Blaschik, Jr., 56, of East Haddam-Moodus Road, East Haddam was traveling southbound on Old Colchester Road in Hebron, operating a 2009 Toyota Tacoma.  Anthony Caye, 18, of Quinn Road, Marlborough was traveling northbound on Old Colchester Road in a 1997 Volkswagon Golf, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck Blaschik's vehicle on the left side. Blaschik and his two passengers were transported via Hebron Ambulance to the Marlborough Medical Center for evaluation of complaints of minor pain, according to police. Caye was issued an infraction for failure to drive upon the right.

LARCENY - On Jan. 31, East Haddam police were dispatched to a residence on North Moodus Road in the Moodus section of East Haddam to investigate the report of missing lights from an outbuilding on the property and a missing UPS delivery. BURGLARY AND LARCENY - On Feb.1 at 10:15 a.m., Ian Grimsley, 26, of 57 Cook Hill Road, Windsor was arrested pursuant to two warrants for charges of 3rd-degree burglary and 6th-degree larceny. The warrants were based on incidents that took place in both East Haddam and Bolton. Grimsley was detained on a $10,000 and a $25,000 bond, pending arraignment later that day at Rockville Superior Court in Rockville.

SCRAP-METAL THEFTS - On Feb.1 at 1:15 pm., State Police were dispatched to Johnsonville Road in East Haddam to investigate several items taken from a property. Some of the items included motorcycle parts, a wrought iron bench, a well cover and some wheels and rims for a Ford Bronco. Anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious or have information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact Trooper Joshua McElroy at the Connecticut State Police, Troop K at 860-537-7500, ext. # 4066.
