Possession of Burglary Tools, DUI, Use of a Cell Phone While Driving, Assault and Disorderly Conduct

East Haddam area police activity reports.

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:


LARCENY, POSSESSION OF BURGLARY TOOLS AND POSSESSION OF NARCOTICS NOT IN THE ORIGINAL CONTAINER - On March 7th at 4:30 p.m., Jason Rich, 36, of 40 Bashan-Falls Road, Moodus was arrested by Colchester Police and charged with two counts of 6th-degree larceny, possession of burglary tools and possession of narcotics not in the original container, related to a shoplifting incident at Stop & Shop in Colchester. Police said that Rich had left his vehicle parked and running in front of the store, and had attempted to leave without paying for some baby formula and 'Red Bull' energy drink. When attempting to secure the vehicle, police also found several flashlights and a medium-sized sledge hammer in the car. Rich was arrested in January by Vernon Police related to . He was held on a $5,000 cash bond and scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court in Norwich on 3/8/12.

FAILURE TO GRANT THE RIGHT-OF-WAY AT THE JUNCTION OF A HIGHWAY - On March 10th at approximately 4:13 p.m., Nancy Smith, 79, of Chester Village West, Chester was traveling eastbound on Ray Hill Road in a 2005 Subaru Forester, approaching Route 82 in East Haddam. Steven Skoglund, 53, of East Main Street, Stafford Springs was traveling northbound on Route 82 in a 2000 Toyota Camry. Police said Smith struck Skoglund's vehicle in the front driver's side area, causing minor damage to both vehicles. No injuries were reported, but Smith was issued a written warning for failure to grant the right-of-way at the junction of a highway.

INTERFERING WITH AN EMERGENCY CALL, DISORDERLY CONDUCT AND THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT - On March 11th at 2:30 a.m., Carlos Javier Morales, 38, of 14 Robbie Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with the above violations, after being involved in a domestic dispute. Morales was later released on a $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 3/12/12.

FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT - On March 14th at 10:52 a.m., Sean Barry, 21, of 593 Town Street, Moodus was arrested and charged with 2nd-degree failure to appear in court, pursuant to a warrant. Barry was released on a $1,000 bond and given a court date of 3/20/12 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

TWO-CAR COLLISION - On March 14th at approximately 5:27 p.m., Neva Wrann, 32, of East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike, East Haddam was traveling eastbound on Route 2 in Colchester in a 2006 Toyota Prius. Janice Fuller, 58, of Waterhole Road, Colchester was traveling in the same direction on Route 2, ahead of Wrann, driving a 2000 Saab 9-3. Both vehicles exited the highway via the Exit 16 off-ramp. As Fuller brought her vehicle to a stop at the end of the ramp, she was struck from behind by Wrann's vehicle. Police issued Wrann a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. No injuries were reported.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND OR DRUGS, RECKLESS DRIVING AND USE OF A CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING - On March 15th at approximately 6:50 p.m., Lori Allegra, 46, of 69 Town Road, East Haddam was arrested by Waterford Police and charged with the above violations. Allegra was released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at New London Superior Court on 3/28/12.
