State police are investigating a burglary at a Killingworth home earlier this week which involved the theft of two handguns.
The guns — both Smith and Wesson brands — were stolen in late December from the home on Route 80, police say. The guns were reported missing on Monday.
According to police, the homeowner returned from being away for about a week and discovered that someone had broken into his home by forcing open a rear kitchen door.
The guns were taken from a second floor bedroom closet, police say.
The burglar also stole a small can of rare coins but the home was otherwise left undisturbed, a report says.
State police canvassed the neighborhood for information about the burglary or a suspect but were unsuccessful.
