Police: Dog Left in Car in 90-Degree Heat

A Higganum woman left a small, white dog in her car while running into Stop and Shop in Middletown.

On July 7 at 10:50 a.m., police were called to Stop and Shop on East Main Street in Middletown for a report of animal cruelty after Pamela Tirado, 53, of Killingworth Road, Higganum, left her dog in a Nissan Sentra.

According to a police report, the caller said a very small white dog was barking and panting in a car in 90-degree heat and she tried to give it water through the crack in the window. When police arrived, all four windows were open one inch and the car was unlocked, the report says. Twenty minutes later, Tirado returned, saying she was only in a store a few minutes.
