PD: Wesleyan Student Charged After Taking Cell Phone Pics of Female Student in Shower Stall

Middletown police say the 19-year-old Higganum took four photographs of a female Wesleyan student in a co-ed dorm from the shower next to her.

A 19-year-old Wesleyan student is facing voyeurism charges after a female in a co-ed dorm says he shot photographs of her unclothed in the shower, according to Middletown Police.

On Sept. 11 at 9:15 a.m., police were called to Wesleyan University by a female in a co-ed dorm on High Street who said a man in the shower next to her at least twice "observed a hand with a camera phone reach under her stall and possibly take pictures of her," after hearing the shower shut off, the report says.

Robert Cristian Rotaru, 19, of Jackson Road, in the Higganum section of Haddam, told officers he had taken four pictures of the victim from under her shower stall, "two turned out to be his own hand and two were of her legs to about thigh level."

"This was an isolated incident and there is no evidence to support that this has been happening anywhere else on campus. MPD and Wesleyan Public Safety worked together to bring swift closure to this incident with minimal disruption on campus," according to Middletown Lt. Gary Wallace.

The report says Rotaru heard the female say, "excuse me, what are you doing?" and he replied he was sorry and left.
