Motor Vehicle vs. Tree, Breach of Peace and Larceny

East Haddam Police Activity Reports from May 26th through June 8th.

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K, report the following incidents:

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. TREE - On May 26, at approximately 6:44 p.m., James Cyrul, 59, of  Mitchell Road, East Haddam, was traveling along Salem Road in East Haddam in a 2009 Toyota Corolla, when his vehicle went off the roadway, striking the base of a tree. Cyrul left the scene and proceeded to drive back to his home address. In transit, the left front tire lost pressure and came off the rim. Police investigating the incident determined that Cyrul was having a medical emergency, and he was treated by EMS personnel. Cyrul was later issued a written warning for making an improper turn.

TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS - On May 30, at approximately 3:24 p.m., Cory Thompson, no age given, of Gloria Avenue, Danielson, was traveling northbound on Route 149 in Moodus on a 2001 Yamaha XVS-650 motorcycle. Thompson attempted to make a right-hand turn onto Route 151, when some loose gravel in the roadway reportedly caused the vehicle to lay down on it's side. Thompson sustained minor injuries, and refused medical treatment by East Haddam Volunteer Ambulance medical personnel. Police issued Thompson a written warning for taveling too fast for conditions, and the motorcycle had to be towed from the scene.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On June 3, Brandon Pearson, 22, of 37 Leesville Road, Moodus, was arrested and processed at Troop K, then later released on a $1,000 non-surety bond. Pearson was given a court date of 6/6/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF AND LARCENY FROM A MOTOR-VEHICLE - On June 3, East Haddam Police were called to investigate damages and theft from a motor vehicle that was parked at a Town Street address.

LARCENY FROM A MOTOR-VEHICLE - On June 3, a resident of Old Kentwood Road, East Haddam, reported a theft from a motor vehicle.

BREACH OF PEACE AND THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT - On June 4, Christine Avery, 21, of 235 Middle Haddam Road, Middle Haddam, was arrested and processed at Troop K, then later released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and sceduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court in Norwich on 6/6/11.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On June 4, East Haddam Police were called to investigate damages to a window at a Town Street, East Haddam residence. Police believe that the window was broken to gain access to the home, however nothing was reported to be missing.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS, FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT, AND OPERATING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE - On June 6, at approximately 1:07 a.m., Max Kamm, 22, of 89 Millington-Hopyard Road, East Haddam, was stopped by Colchester Police for a motor vehicle violation. Police subsequently determined Kamm to be 'under the influence' and he was arrested and taken into custody without incident. Kamm was later released on a $750 non-surety bond, and given a court date of 6/21/11 at Norwich Superior Court in Norwich.

MAKING AN UNSAFE TURN - On June 6, at approximately 5:36 p.m., Erin Oleynek, 23, of Sullivan Road, Salem, was traveling northbound in a 2001 Hyundai Accent, on Route 85 in Salem, in the right-hand portion of a double travel lane, approaching the entrance to the Henny Penny Convenience Store. Oleynek was stopped, waiting to turn into the driveway, when Denise Cutler, 40, of Newberry Road, East Haddam, driving a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country, struck the left front side of Oleynek's vehicle. No injuries were reported, however, both vehicles sustained moderate damage and had to be towed from the scene. Cutler was issued an infraction for making an unsafe turn.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. TREE - On June 7, at approximately 11:52 p.m., Ami Kuster, 31, of Norwich Avenue, Colchester, was traveling southbound in a 1997 Subaru Legacy on Town Street in East Haddam. Police say that Kuster reportedly swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway, causing the vehicle to proceed off the right-hand side of the roadway, striking a tree. Kuster was evaluated by East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department emergency medical personnel, and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.  Kuster was issued an infraction for making an improper turn.

TRESPASSING AND LARCENY FROM A MOTOR-VEHICLE - On June 8, a Davison Road, Moodus resident reported to police that her garage had been entered the night before, and money was stolen from a vehicle.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. UTILITY POLE - On June 8, at approximately 8:52 a.m., Michelle Novak, 53, of Petticoat Lane, East Haddam, was traveling northbound along Town Street in East Haddam, in a 2004 Honda-CRV, when she crossed the center line of the roadway and impacted a utility pole on the southbound side, near the intersection of Winterbrooke Road. Novak sustained minor injuries, and police issued a written warning for failure to drive upon the right.
