Motor Vehicle vs. Power Lines, Police Search for Evading Vehicle

East Haddam police activity reports for the week.

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K report the following incidents:

BURGLARY, LARCENY, CRIMINAL MISCHIEF AND VANDALISM - On July 16 at approximately 1:30 p.m., state police were assigned to investigate a reported burglary at the East Haddam Little League Concession Stand at the East Haddam Elementary School on Joe Williams Road in Moodus. The complainant reported that the stand had been locked up on Monday, July 11th, at 9:00 p.m. after the last baseball game of the season.

Police report that, as of today's investigation, doors and locks were found to be damaged and a picnic table had been vandalized. A case of 24-20 oz. Diet Coke bottles were taken. MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. POWER LINES AND EVADING VEHICLE - On July 18 at approximately 12:35 p.m., Charles Sharples, 63, of Rosemary Lane, Killingworth, was traveling eastbound on Route 82 in East Haddam in a 2007 Mitsubishi box truck. Another vehicle, described as a black sedan-type vehicle, possibly a Jaguar, was traveling northbound on Route 149 and collided with a utility pole and sign, causing power lines to hang. Sharples' vehicle then collided with the hanging wires, causing them to disconnect and land in the roadway. The road was closed for approximately a half-hour. The East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department was on scene to assist while CL&P repaired the power lines. No injuries were reported, but state police are looking for the vehicle that left the scene. MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. UTILITY POLE - On July 19 at approximately 5:41 p.m., Thomas Wilson, 16, of Sbona Drive, Middletown was traveling southbound on Mount Parnassus Road in East Haddam in a 2002 Toyota Camry, just north of Warner Road. Wilson exited the roadway and struck a utility pole and a tree. Police reported minor injuries.

VANDALISM AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On July 22, an employee of the East Haddam Fish & Game Club reported damage to an entrance gate located on Wickham Road. The case is under investigation and anyone with possible information is asked to contact Corporal Karabeinikoff at the East Haddam Police Department at 860-873-1226.

SECOND-DEGREE HARASSMENT - On July 23, Angela Keith, 44, of 14 Davison Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with 2nd-degree harassment. Keith was released on a $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court on 8/2/11.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. GUARDRAIL - On July 23 at approximately 10:57 a.m., East Haddam Police observed a vehicle striking a guardrail on Route 151 in the area of Powerhouse Road in East Haddam. Patricia Stannard, 58, of Hog Hill Road, East Hampton was issued a written warning for speeding and making an improper right-hand turn.
