Motor Vehicle vs. East Haddam Swing-Bridge, Criminal Mischief and Motor Vehicle Larcenies

East Haddam Police activity reports for the end of May.

East Haddam Police and Connecticut State Police, Troop K, report the following incidents:

VIOLATION OF PROBATION - On May 25, Christian Mock, 30, of 19 Ridgewood Drive, Moodus, was arrested and charged with two counts of violation of probation. Christian was processed and released on a $1,000 bond for the first offense, and was given a court date of 6/7/11 at Middlsex Superior Court. He was released on a bond of $5,000  for the second offense, and is scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court on 6/15/11.

MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. EAST HADDAM SWING-BRIDGE - On May 25, at approximately 7:04 p.m., James Carlson, 35, of Old Ponsett Road, Haddam, was traveling along Rt. 82 in East Haddam, approaching the East Haddam Bridge. Police report that, due to strong sun glare, the driver did not realize that the bridge was closing. Carlson's vehicle came into contact with the 'swing-arm'  apparatus of the bridge, and the 2007 Jeep-Commander sustained windshield damage. No injuries were reported by Carlson or his passenger, 33-year-old Lisa Carlson, of  the same address. A one-month-old baby, also in the vehicle, was unharmed. The East Haddam Bridge 'swing-arm' was damaged, and the driver was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey a traffic control signal.

BREACH OF PEACE - On May 25, at approximately 10:05 p.m., a resident called police to report a vehicle traveling around at a high rate of speed, with a loud exhaust system. The resident had reportedly confronted the driver, but he continued to drive around the neighborhood. Police arrested Matthew Kostoss, 26, of 75 Leesville Road, Moodus, and charged him with breach of peace. Kostoss was processed at The Connecticut State Police, Troop K, and later released on a $500 bond. He was given a court date of 6/2/11 at Norwich Superior Court.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF AND LARCENY FROM A MOTOR-VEHICLE - On May 26, State Police from the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office were called to investigate damages and theft from a motor vehicle at an East Haddam-Moodus Road residence. Anyone with possible information that could help this investigation is asked to contact Connecticut State Police, Troop K, at 860-537-7500.

LARCENY FROM A MOTOR-VEHICLE - On May 26, at approximately 2:07 p.m., East Haddam Police were called to investigate a theft from a motor vehicle that was left parked at the Nathan Hale-Ray High School on School Drive in Moodus. A student's pocketbook was reported stolen, and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything, or might have information regarding this incident to call them at 860-537-7500.

EVADING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT - On May 27, sometime between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 1:30 a.m., police received a report that a 2002 Audi A4 was struck and damaged in the parking lot of the East Haddam Town Hall on Main Street in East Haddam. The unknown vehicle evaded the scene.

MOTOR-VEHICLE VS GUARDRAIL - On May 27, at approximately 12:08 a.m., Antone Onofrio, 20, of 143 Clark Hill Road, East Haddam, was traveling along Route 2 eastbound, driving a 1995 Honda Prelude, in the area of exit 13. Onofrio reported to police that he had seen a deer in the roadway, and when he tried to avoid it, swerved into the metal rope guardrail on the side of the highway. Approximately 50-feet of guardrail was damaged, and the vehicle sustained heavy front-end and driver's side damage. Neither Onofrio, nor his passenger, 19-year-old Dylan Berg, of 821 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford, reported any injuries, and both claimed that they were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
