Motor-Vehicle Struck with Flying Debris, Assault, Narcotics and Risk of Injury to a Minor

Haddam area police activity reports.

The Haddam Resident Troopers' Office and the Connecticut State Police, Troop F in Westbrook report the following incidents:

RISK OF INJURY TO A MINOR, POSSESSION OF NARCOTICS AND POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA - On Sept. 26 at approximately 5:26 p.m., State Police at the Troop F barracks in Westbrook received numerous '911' calls reporting a fight in progress on the side of the highway, in the area of exit 8 on the southbound side. Police arrived and arrested Mario Montiel, 21, (no street address given) of Centerbrook, and charged him with risk of injury to a minor, possession of narcotics (Cocaine), possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of marijuana. Montiel was transported to the barracks and held on a $10,000 surety-bond, and scheduled to appear in court on 9/27/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE WITH A SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE - On Oct. 3, Catherine A. Stanley, 41, of Parmelee Lane, Haddam was issued a summons by Middletown Police, after being observed driving on Main Street in Middletown and failing to signal when making a turn.

BREACH OF PEACE AND FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT - On Oct. 3, Daniel Cansdale, 40, of Dublin Hill Road, Higganum, was arrested in Middletown for an assault on a pregnant woman. The victim had reported that he punched her with closed fists in her stomach. Middletown Police say Cansdale was heavily intoxicated, and was transported to Middlesex Hospital for evaluation, complaining of pain in his hands and wrists. He was released on a $1,500 non-surety bond and scheduled for arraignment on 10/13/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT - On Oct. 3 at approximately 1:10 a.m., State Troopers from Troop F in Westbrook were dispatched to Burr Road in Higganum, to investigate a complaint from an area resident. The complainant reported that, from her bedroom window, she had observed two young white males crouched down in front of her garage. Police arrived and discovered that a mailbox had been tampered with, a vehicle parked on the property had been entered, and the glove-compartment and ashtray had been opened. The two males suspects with flashlights were observed leaving the area on foot, traveling westbound on Burr Road, according to police. Anyone who may have witnessed anything that could help police in this investigation is asked to contact Trooper Ewing at the Connecticut State Police, Troop F in Westbrook, at 860-399-2100 or 1-800-256-5761.

BREACH OF PEACE - On Oct. 3 at approximately 9:07 p.m., Joshua MacDonald, 40, of 132 West Shore Drive, Higganum was arrested and charged with breach of peace, after being involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend. MacDonald was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court on 10/4/11. No injuries were reported.

MOTOR-VEHICLE STRUCK WITH FLYING DEBRIS - On Oct. 5 at approximately 1:10 p.m., Michael Coleman, 51, of Turkey Hill Road, Haddam was traveling northbound on Route 9 in the area of exit 12 in a 1999 Chevy S-10 pick-up truck, when the driver's side running board became loose and disconnected from the vehicle. Police say the running board became airborne, striking the windshield of a 2008 Lexus IS-250, driven by David Mancuso, 34, of Quarry Street, Old Saybrook, causing the windshield on the car to shatter. No injuries were reported.
