Man and Dog Rescued from Freezing Waters of Lake Hayward

Tuesday morning, rescue crews were called to Lake Hayward in East Haddam to rescue a man attempting to rescue his dog.

 

Crews from Salem, East Haddam and Colchester responded Tuesday morning to an emergency call of a dog in the water and a man on the ice at Lake Hayward. 

According to a report in the Middletown Press, Salem was the first department to arrive at the lake. Firefighters, the report states, were met by a resident who pointed to a dog in the water struggling to pull itself onto the ice.

The dog's owner was in a kayak trying to rescue the dog.

WFSB 3 reports that the rescue crews were able to get the man, who was not identified, and the dog off the ice within 30 minutes.

Neither the dog nor his owner were injured.
