Life Star Helicopter Responds to Serious Motor-Vehicle Accident, Violation of Probation and Disorderly Conduct

Haddam area police activity reports.

The Haddam Resident Troopers' Office and the Connecticut State Police, Troop F in Westbrook report the following incidents:

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. TREES - On Oct. 11 at approximately 2:51 a.m., Christian McKenna, 21, of Lake Avenue, Higganum was traveling westbound on Candlewood Hill Road in Haddam, in a 2004 Subaru Impreza. McKenna lost control and drifted off the roadway, striking two trees and was ejected from the vehicle. Police say he was transported to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries via Life-Star Helicopter.

VIOLATION OF PROBATION AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On Oct. 20 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Middletown Police were dispatched to a Walnut Street, Middletown address to investigate a domestic violence incident. Daniel Cansdale, 40, of Dublin Hill Road, Higganum was subsequently arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and issued a $20,000 surety bond with a court date of 10/21/11. Cansdale was also arrested based on two prior outstanding warrants for violation of probation with two separate bond amounts of $25,000 each, and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 10/31/11.

UNSAFE MOVEMENT OF A MOTOR-VEHICLE AND FAILURE TO CARRY AN INSURANCE CARD - On Oct. 16 at approximately 4:38 p.m., James Mele, 50, of Depot Hill Road, Cobalt was traveling westbound on Route 82 in Haddam in a 1999 Honda Civic. Larry Maxwell, 41, of Joe Williams Road in Moodus was traveling directly behind Mele in a 2008 Toyota RAV4. Both vehicles stopped at a red light at the intersection of Routes 82 and 154. Mele pulled forward to make a right-hand turn onto Route 154, but then stopped for on-coming traffic. Maxwell pulled forward as well, but was unable to stop in time and struck Mele's vehicle. Police issued Maxwell infractions for unsafe movement of a motor-vehicle and failure to carry an insurance card. No injuries were reported.
