A Letter from the Chief...

Dear East Haddam Residents:

Find out what's happening in The Haddams-Killingworthwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

The East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department  has been dedicated to serving our town since 1931. The current fifty plus members provide thousands of hours annually towards the preservation and protection of life and property within the East Haddam community. It simply takes someone to dial 911, and we are on our way to help.

For new residents, we welcome you to East Haddam, and would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves.

The East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department is an 80-year-old volunteer organization which provides the Town of East Haddam with firefighting and rescue services throughout the year. In addition to responding to the emergency needs of our fellow citizens and providing mutual aid to neighboring towns, EHVFD members spend hundreds of hours training to improve their emergency skills, many of which are mandated by the State of Connecticut.

The Town of East Haddam currently has a total of 7,100 acres of open space; between town, state, and preserved land. This is a very large amount of acreage with no clear roadways or paths to allow the EHVFD easy and quick access. Currently we must request mutual aid for 'All-Terrain Vehicles' that take about a half an hour or more to arrive, which is just too long to wait when responding to an emergency situation.

Therefore,  the East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department is requesting donations from the citizens and businesses of East Haddam to purchase an all-wheel drive All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV). We need your HELP! These donations will allow us to purchase an ATV so we can have rapid access down narrow trails for search and rescue activities that even pick-ups cannot access, including carrying out patients from deep in the woods quickly and safely.

In addition to rescue operations, this ATV will also be equipped with forest firefighting equipment. It will provide water, equipment, and transportation for firefighters in order to have access to remote locations throughout our town.
Please send what you can. Make checks payable to the East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department (EHVFD) and mail them to P.O. Box 375, East Haddam, CT. 06423.

On behalf of the East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department members, thank you for your support. Remember, we still make house calls!

Sincerely,
Donald Angersola, Chief
