Higganum Man Arrested After Allegedly Sexually Abusing Child

A 33-year-old Higganum man was arrested after an investigation that resulted from a 19-month old being brought to Yale's Emergency room for an injury to the pelvic region.

 

The following is a press release from the North Branford Police Department.

On Jan. 12, 2013, the North Branford Police Department arrested Joseph Lane, 33, of Higganum. Lane a registered sex offender listed on the State of Connecticut Sex Offender Registry. Lane is charged with first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and two counts of violation of probation.

The arrest stems from a report received from Department of Children and Families on Jan. 10. This report was regarding to a 19-month-old child that was brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital Emergency room for an injury to the pelvic region.

After an investigation conducted by Department of Children and Families and members of the North Branford Police Department, Lane was arrested after an arrest warrant was applied for and granted.

He was held on a total of $550,000 bond – $250,000 for the sexual assault warrant, $200,000 for one Violation of Probation warrant and $100,000 for the other. He was held over the weekend and brought to court on Jan. 14 for arraignment on the listed charges.
