Feds Arrest Colchester Man Who Had Fake Marshal's Badge

Prosecutors say he had other federal IDs as well.

Federal officials today charged John W. Carroll, 42, of Colchester, with the unauthorized possession of an imitation U.S. Marshals Service badge.

The criminal complaint alleges that Carroll possessed a fake U.S. Marshals Service badge that was substantially similar to an authentic badge, and two fake U.S. Marshals Service identification cards.

Following his arrest Carroll appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Joan G. Margolis in New Haven and was released on a $10,000 bond.

If convicted , Carroll faces a maximum of six months in federal prison and a fine of up to $5,000. U.S. Attorney David Fein stressed that the complaint is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The case is being investigated by the U.S.  Marshals Service and state and local law enforcement agencies.
