EH Police Report Several MVAs, One Fatality
East Haddam Police Activity Reports Feb. 24 to March 1
The East Haddam Police and Connecticut State Police, Troop K, Colchester report the following incidents:
LARCENY FROM A TOWN BUILDING — On Feb. 24, an East Haddam resident reported a theft from one of the town buildings, and police are investigating.
TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS — On Feb. 25, at approximately 8:58 a.m., Margaret Darrow, 72, of Acorn Drive, East Haddam, was traveling eastbound on Petticoat Lane, just west of Silas Holmes Road in East Haddam, driving a 2010 Toyota Prius, when she lost control of her vehicle, striking a snowbank. No injuries were reported, but police issued Darrow an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.
OPERATING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE — On Feb. 26, Bernard Wagner, 34, of 2 Lumberyard Road, East Haddam, was issued an infraction for the above charge.
IMPROPER TURN— On Feb. 26, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Michael Cummings, 47, of Moodus-Leesville Road, Moodus, was traveling southbound on Route 149 (Falls Road) in Moodus, in a 1995 Buick Century. Cummings made an improper turn and went off onto the right side of the road, causing moderate damage to the vehicle, according to police.
MOTOR VEHICLE ROLLOVER — On Feb. 27, at approximately 7:56 a.m., Linda Cortello, 63, of Mount Parnassus Road, East Haddam, was traveling eastbound on Mount Parnassus Road in a 2004 Ford Expedition, when she drove off onto the northbound side of the roadway and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to roll over. Both Cortello, and her passenger, 42-year-old Kimberly Pasanio, also of Mount Parnassus Road, East Haddam, were transported to Hartford Hospital with minor injuries.
TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS — On Feb. 28, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Jean Maheu, 23, of Grist Mill Lane, Moodus, was traveling southbound on Route 149 in Moodus in a 1997 Dodge Dakota, when he struck a guardrail at the intersection of Routes 149 and 151. No injuries were reported.
MOTORCYCLE VS. TRUCK — On March 1, at approximately 5:08 p.m., Thomas Murphy, 53, of Parum Road, Colchester, was traveling eastbound on Route 82 in East Haddam, on a 2000 Kawasaki (VN-1500-G) Vulcan Nomad, in the area of Tater Hill Road in East Haddam, when he drifted into the westbound lane and struck a 1998 Chevy GK2 pick-up truck, driven by Raymond Willis, 75, of Three-Bridges Road, East Haddam. Murphy suffered fatal injuries as a result of this accident. Willis was transported to the Marlborough Clinic for evaluation, according to police, and the accident remains under investigation.
