East Haddam Prepares for Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy to threaten Connecticut with high winds, heavy rainfall and flooding. Here's what you should be doing to prepare.

East Haddam Emergency Management officials have already begun planning and coordinating for the potential impact of Hurricane Sandy on our town and is closely monitoring the storm's projected path.

Should Sandy follow the predicted tracks into the NJ Coast, the impact on our area could include Tropical Storm force winds, heavy rainfall for several days that may affect low lying areas causing local rivers and streams to flood their banks and wide spread power outages.  A small change to the north in the track could greatly affect the impact to our area for the worst.

What East Haddam residents should be doing to prepare at this time:

  • Monitor Local media for the latest forecasts and changing storm conditions
  • Secure your home and yard from the storm – propane tanks, lawn furniture, etc.
  • Inspect your homes gutters and down spouts for proper drainage and runoff
  • Insure your Emergency Kit / Supplies – All East Haddam residents should be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least three days (72 Hours)
  • Register your phone(s) and electronic device information on the East Haddam Alert System to receive important storm information (www.easthaddam.org)
