DUI's, Reckless Endangerment, Interfering with Police, and Operating a Motor-Vehicle with Intent to Harass or Intimidate

East Haddam area police activity reports.

 

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:
 
MOTOR-VEHICLE ROLL-OVER AND OPERATING WITHOUT A LICENSE - On Dec. 4 at approximately 8:30 a.m., John Rucker, III, 21, of Creek Row, East Haddam was traveling northbound on Route 154 near Goose Hill Road in the town of Chester, operating a 2010 Subaru Forester. Rucker reportedly swerved to avoid another vehicle that was entering the roadway, crossed over into the southbound lane, struck a metal beam guardrail and rolled over and down an embankment. Rucker was transported to Middlesex Hospital by Haddam Ambulance for evaluation of his injuries. Police issued Rucker an infraction for operating without a license.

LARCENY INVESTIGATION - On Dec. 1 at 11:08 a.m., East Haddam Police received a complaint of a missing garden sprayer from a residence on Town Farm Road in East Haddam. The case is under investigation.

VIOLATION OF A PROTECTIVE ORDER AND FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT - On Dec. 2 at 3:05 p.m., police were dispatched to a Clark Hill Road, East Haddam residence to assist bail bondsmen with service of a warrant for an individual on a charge of failure to appear in Norwich Superior Court. Police then discovered that Paul Deckelman, 29, of 143 Clark Hill Road, East Haddam was also in violation of a protective order. Deckelman was arrested and charged with the above. He was processed and released on a $10,000 cash bond. Deckelman was assigned two court dates at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown, 12/5/11 related to the charge for violation of a protective order and 12/12/11 for the charge of failure to appear in court.

BREACH OF PEACE AND INTERFERING WITH AN OFFICER - On Dec. 2 at 3:40 p.m., Nicholas Dodge, 18, of 100 Pinebrook Road, Colchester was arrested and charged with the above. Dodge was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on 12/15/11.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS, TRAVELING UNREASONABLY FAST AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA - On Dec. 4 at 12:46 a.m., police stopped a vehicle for speeding on Sipples Hill Road in Moodus. The officer detected the odor of marijuana. The driver was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Timothy Bernard, 21, of 33 Brennan Road, Amston subsequently failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with the above. Bernard was processed at Troop K, released on a $500 bond and given a court date of 12/14/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

CRIMINAL VIOLATION OF A STANDING RESTRAINING ORDER AND HARASSMENT - On Dec. 4 at 9:30 a.m., Christopher Kaspern, 27, of 1135 Horse Hill Road, Westbrook was arrested and charged with the above. Kaspern was released on a $25,000 insured bond, pending a court date of 12/5/11 at Middlesex Superior Court.

VIOLATION OF A RESTRAINING ORDER - On Dec. 5 at 7:00 a.m., Diane Moore, 54, of 30 Sipples Hill Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with the above. Moore was released on a $5,000 cash bond and scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on 12/5/11.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Dec. 7, Michael Tuttle, 54, of 134 North Moodus Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with the above, after being observed by police operating his vehicle without one of its front tires in the area of Moodus Road (Route 151) in Haddam Neck. According to the report, the vehicle also displayed recent damage. Tuttle failed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with DUI. He was released on a $500 non-surety bond and given a court date of 12/19/11 at Midllesex Superior Court in Middletown. The missing tire was later located on Route 151.

FOLLOWING TOO CLOSE, RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT AND OPERATING A MOTOR-VEHICLE WITH INTENT TO HARASS OR INTIMIDATE - On Dec. 8 at 5:00 a.m., Matthew Ryan Mitchell, 23, of 32 East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike, East Haddam was arrested and charged with the above, subsequent to a domestic violence incident. Mitchell was held on a 1,000 cash bond and turned over to Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown for arraignment on 12/8/11.

LARCENY - On Dec. 8, Antone Onofrio, 21, of 143 Clark Hill Road, East Haddam was arrested for 6th-degree larceny, based on an active warrant, and stemming from a police investigation related to a theft at Shagbark Lumber & Farm Supply in East Haddam. Onofrio was released on a $500 non-surety bond pending a court date of 12/20/11 at Middlesex Superior Court.

LARCENY, ILLEGAL USE OF A CREDIT CARD AND CREDIT CARD THEFT AND/OR FRAUD - On Dec. 8, John Paul Fournier, 22, of 45 Forest Road, East Hampton was arrested for two counts of 6th-degree larceny, based on an active warrant, and stemming from a police investigation related to a theft at Shagbark Lumber & Farm Supply in East Haddam. Fournier was released on a $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 12/20/11. He is also facing charges with East Hampton Police related to a Nov. 30th arrest for 6th-degree larceny, illegal use of a credit card and credit card theft and/or fraud. Fournier was released on a $2,500 bond and given a court date of 1/5/12 at Middlesex Superior Court based on those charges.

BURGLARY - On Dec. 8 at 3:13 p.m., State Police were dispatched to an East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike, East Haddam residence for a report of a burglary that took place sometime between Dec. 4th and Dec. 8th. The case is under investigation.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Dec. 8 at 8:18 p.m., police were dispatched to investigate a reported disturbance in the area of Joe Williams Road in Moodus. Brian Staples, 49, of 41 East High Street, East Hampton was discovered in the driver's seat of a vehicle with the engine running. After failing a series of field sobriety tests, Staples was placed under arrest and charged with DUI. He was transported to Troop K for processing, and later released on a $500 non-surety bond. Staples was scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court  in Middletown on 12/19/11.

MISUSE OF PLATES, FAILURE TO CARRY INSURANCE AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA - On Dec. 8 at 8:45 p.m., Jonathan Jonah, 40, of 61 Loomis Road, Colchester was arrested and charged with the above. Jonah was processed at Troop K without incident, released on a $1,000 insured bond, and scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court in Norwich on 12/22/11.
