DUI Checkpoint, Interfering with Police, Possession of Marijuana and Narcotics

East Haddam area police activity reports for the week.

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K report the following incidents:

POSSESSION OF NARCOTICS AND THIRD-DEGREE LARCENY - On Aug. 11 at 9:48 p.m., Jason Menard, 22, of 30 Sipple Hill Road, Moodus, was a passenger in a vehicle that police pulled over during a routine motor-vehicle stop. It was subsequently discovered that there was an active warrant out for Menard's arrest for 3rd-degree larceny. He was taken into custody to Troop K, processed and held in lieu of a $5,000 court-set bond and given a court date of 8/12/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown. Additionally, while Menard was in custody, police found him to be in illegal possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone). He was later released on a $1,000 non-surety bond for the second offense and scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court in Norwich on 8/25/11.

VIOLATION OF A PROTECTIVE ORDER - On Aug. 12 at 3:00 p.m., Mark Santangelo, 55, of 401 Tater Hill Road, East Haddam, was arrested and charged with the above. Santangelo was processed and released on a $50,000 insured bond and given a court date of 8/15/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

LARCENY - On Aug. 12 at 3:15 p.m., Melissa Johnson, 26, of 360 East Haddam-Moodus Road, Moodus, was arrested and charged with 6th-degree larceny, after being accused of stealing a pair of sunglasses from a local business in Moodus. Johnson was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Middlesex Superior Court on 8/23/11.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT AND THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT - On Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m., John Belz, 47, of 173 Smith Road, East Haddam, was arrested and charged with the above. Belz was processed and released on a $2,500 bond and scheduled to appear in Middlesex Superior Court on 8/15/11.

DUI, EVADING, AND FAILURE TO KEEP RIGHT ON A CURVE - On Aug. 13 at approximately 12:36 p.m., Lisa Nichols, 53, of 1 Fellows Road, Oakdale, was arrested and charged with the above, as a result of two separate motor-vehicle accidents. Nichols was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and given a court date of 8/24/11. For full .

DISORDERLY CONDUCT AND THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT - On Aug. 13 at 5:45 p.m., Carrie Patterson, 34, of 63 Neptune Avenue, Moodus, was arrested and charged with the above, processed and released on a $500 non-surety bond, and given a court date of 8/15/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.


*The following arrests were made as a result of the DUI and Sobriety checkpoint operation, conducted by state and local police at Route 82 (Norwich-Salem Road) and Route 156 in East Haddam, Saturday evening, August 13th :


DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Aug. 13 at 7:46 p.m., Lorraine Erikson, 28, of 164 Chesterfield Road, East Lyme, was arrested and charged with DUI and possession of narcotics not in the original container. Erikson was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 8/24/11.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA - On Aug. 13 at 7:45 p.m., Raymond Elton, 28, of 44 Lovers Lane, East Lyme, was arrested and charged with the above.

INTERFERING WITH POLICE, POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA, AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA - On Aug. 13 at 8:56 p.m., Luke Hosking, 20, of 6 Green Tree Drive, East Lyme, was arrested and charged with the above. When police stopped Hosking at the DUI checkpoint and requested his ID and that he pull his vehicle over to the side, he fled the area. He was later apprehended by police on Tater Hill Road in East Haddam. Hosking was placed under arrest, released on a $1,000 bond and given a court date of 8/30/11 at Middlesex Superior Court.
