Drug Possession, Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Larceny, Interfering with Police

East Haddam Police Activity Reports Feb. 6-14

The East Haddam Police and Connecticut State Police Troop K, Colchester, report the following:

TWO-VEHICLE HEAD-ON COLLISION — On Feb. 6, Scott Ezold, 17, of Maple Ave., East Haddam, was traveling eastbound on Chestnut Hill Road in Colchester, driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid, at approximately 5:54 p.m. Janet LaBella, 59, of Chestnut Hill Road, Colchester, was traveling westbound, driving a 2003 Honda Odyssey, when both vehicles collided head-on. Ezold was transported to Backus Hospital with minor injuries. LaBella was transported to Hartford Hospital via Life-Star Helicopter, and was reported to be in stable condition. The accident is under investigation by police.

MOTOR VEHICLE VS. UTILITY POLE — On Feb. 7, Tyler Schoffstall, 19, of Millbrook Road, Middletown, lost control of his 1998 Ford Explorer, when he collided with a utility pole on Foxtown Road in East Haddam, at approximately 2:03 p.m. Schoffstall was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

FAILURE TO DRIVE A REASONABLE DISTANCE APART — On Feb. 9, Shawn Cronin, 22, of Vesta Circle, Melbourne, Fla., and Samuel Shepley, 19, of 15 Triangle Drive, Moodus, were involved in a two-vehicle accident at approximately 9:53 a.m. on Route 149 (Falls Road) in the area of Falls-Bashan Road in Moodus. Shepley was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. No injuries were reported.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE — On Feb. 9, a Davidson Road, Colchester, resident reported to police that they had witnessed a pick-up truck parked near their mailbox on numerous occasions, in the early morning hours. It is undetermined if any mail is missing, and the case is under investigation.

RISK OF INJURY TO A MINOR AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On Feb. 9, Michael Peckham, 43, of 32 Babcock Road, East Haddam, turned himself in to Troop K in Colchester in response to an active warrant, and was arrested for the above charges.

FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT — On Feb. 11, Charles Lineberry, 40, of 135 Sillimanville Road, Moodus, was located by Middletown police, transported to Troop K in Colchester, and arrested for first-degree failure to appear in court and four counts of second-degree failure to appear in court.

VEHICLE VS. TREES — On Feb. 11, at approximately 5:28 p.m., Jeremy Baldwin, 34, of New Lane Apts, Cromwell, was traveling eastbound on Route 82 near the intersection of Route 151, in a 2007 Ford F-150. Baldwin lost control of his vehicle as it left the roadway, striking several trees. He was transported to Middlesex Memorial Hospital for evaluation, with non-life-threatening injuries.

EVADING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT, OPERATING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE, POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA, POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, INTERFERING WITH POLICE — On Feb. 13, at approximately 3:48 p.m., Thomas Marcel, 51, of 264 Mount Parnassus Road, East Haddam, while driving a 1997 Chevy Tahoe, reportedly struck a 2010 Subaru Forester that was parked on Main Street in East Haddam. Marcel then left the scene, and was later located at his residence by police. While interviewing Marcel, police found him to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Marcel was arrested for the above charges, and released on a $1,000 surety-bond. Court date is March 8, at GA-9 in Middletown.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, BURGLARY, LARCENY — On Feb. 14, Walter Emmons, 51, of 54 Westbrook Road, Deep River, was arrested for criminal mischief, two counts of second-degree larceny, third-degree burglary, and conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary.

FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT — On Feb. 14, at approximately 9:16 a.m., Dennis Hei, 54, of Town Farm Road Ext., East Haddam, was traveling northbound on Beebe Road, in the area of Daniel Peck Road in East Haddam, in a 2008 Ford Fusion. Robert Maheu, 20, of Falls Road, Moodus, was traveling southbound in a 2002 Dodge Stratus. Maheu failed to negotiate a right-hand curve in the road, colliding head-on with Hei's vehicle, according to police. No injuries were reported, however both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Maheu was issued an infraction for failure to drive upon the right.
