Driver Engages Police in Pursuit Through Back Roads of East Haddam

East Haddam Police Activity Reports, March 26 - April 2

The East Haddam Police and The Connecticut State Police, Troop K, Colchester, report the following incidents:

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On March 26, Anna Schultz, 60, of 46 Beebe Road, East Haddam, was arrested on the above charges as a result of the DUI sobriety checkpoint that was conducted by police on Route 149, at the intersection of Mott Lane and Nichols Road in Moodus.

LARCENY BY POSSESSION - On March 26, a 17-year-old female student at the Nathan Hale-Ray High School was found in possession of a stolen iPod, and was subsequently charged with sixth-degree larceny by possession.

FAILURE TO OBEY A STOP SIGN AND DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On March 28, Michael Bartoszewicz, 52, of 574 Town Street, East Haddam, was stopped by police on North Moodus Road in Moodus and was subsequently charged with the above offenses.

THREATENING AND BREACH OF PEACE - On March 28, Mathew Kostoss, 26, of 75 Leesville Road, Moodus, was charged.

THREATENING AND BREACH OF PEACE - On March 29, Luis Velez, 46, of 368 Route 149, Moodus, was charged after police received a report of a disturbance on a school bus on East Haddam-Moodus Road.

FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On March 30, Todd Goodspeed, 21, of 129 Parker Road, East Haddam, was issued a written warning for the above charge.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On March 31, Matthew Andrychowski, 28, of 186 North Moodus Road, Moodus, was charged with DUI, operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance coverage, and operating a motor vehicle with improper registration.

FAILURE TO OBEY A STOP SIGN, RECKLESS DRIVING, FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT, DISOBEYING THE SIGNAL OF AN OFFICER, INTERFERING WITH POLICE, MISUSE OF REGISTRATION PLATES, OPERATING AN UNREGISTERED MOTOR VEHICLE, FAILURE TO CARRY A LICENSE AND OPERATING WITHOUT INSURANCE :
 On April 2, at approximately 3:22 p.m., police were conducting routine traffic enforcement on Falls-Bashan Road in Moodus. After an officer attempted to pull a vehicle over for a stop sign violation, the driver refused to stop, engaging the officer in pursuit, police said.

The chase continued onto Olmstead Road in East Haddam.  The officer abandoned the chase when speeds reached in excess of 85 mph, police said.

James Millett, 47, of 15 Portland St., Middletown, continued traveling eastbound on Olmstead Road in East Haddam, in a 1999 Chrysler Sebring, at a high rate of speed, according to police.

Millett then lost control of his vehicle, traveled off the right-hand shoulder of the road, and struck a utility pole. Police arrested Millett on the above charges. Neither Millett, nor his two passengers, sustained injuries in the accident, police said.
