Drinking While Driving, Criminal Mischief, Theft of a Motor-Vehicle and Assault

Haddam area police activity reports.

The Haddam Resident Troopers' Office and the Connecticut State Police, Troop F, Westbrook report the following incidents:

 

CRIMINAL TRESPASSING, CRIMINAL MISCHIEF AND LARCENY - On Aug. 19, Aaron Conrad, 29, of 375 Walkley Hill Road, Haddam was arrested by Portland Police and charged with 3rd-degree criminal trespass, 3rd-degree criminal mischief and 6th-degree larceny. Conrad was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and given a court date of 8/30/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

DRINKING WHILE DRIVING, OPERATING WITH A SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE AND OPERATING AN UNREGISTERED MOTOR-VEHICLE - On Sept. 7, Matthew Rourke, 43, of Weiss Road, Haddam, was arrested by Middletown Police and charged with the above. Rourke was released on a written promise to appear and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court on 9/21/11.

FAILURE TO DRIVE IN THE ESTABLISHED LANE - On Sept. 10 at approximately 12:16 p.m., Ana Tarbetsky, 17, of High Street, Higganum was traveling southbound on Route 154 (Saybrook Road) in Haddam, in a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Tarbetsky lost control of the vehicle, traveling off the right-hand shoulder of the roadway and up an embankment, coming to rest on the front lawn of a Saybrook Road residence. Police reported that Tarbetsky was uninjured and was able to drive the vehicle from the scene, but issued her a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane.

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE - On Sept. 11 at approximately 4:55 p.m., officers from Troop F were dispatched to a Burr Road, Haddam residence to investigate a reported domestic disturbance. Gerard Russo, 47, of 70 Burr Road, Haddam was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and 3rd-degree assault. Russo was released on a written promise to appear and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 9/12/11. A 17-year-old juvenile offender of the same address was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and 3rd-degree assault, and given a court date of 9/12/11 at Middlesex Superior Court.

MAKING AN UNSAFE LANE CHANGE - On Sept. 12 at approximately 2:06 p.m., Maria Richardson, 44, of Casa Lane, Durham, driving a 2003 Chevy Suburban, and Penny Apter, 87, out of a PO Box, Middle Haddam, driving a 2009 Toyota Avalon, were both traveling eastbound on Route 66 in the area of Jackson Hill Road in Middlefield. As Apter attempted to change lanes, she struck Richardson's vehicle, causing some minor damage. No injuries were reported, but police issued Apter a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane.

LARCENY OF A MOTOR-VEHICLE - On Sept. 13 at approximately 6:04 a.m., State Police were dispatched to Village Street in Deep River to investigate the theft of a vehicle. The 1996 Dodge Caravan (van), purple in color and bearing CT Registration Plate 153-YDA, had been reportedly left parked overnight in the driveway, unlocked and with the keys inside it. The case is under investigation.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS, FAILURE TO DRIVE IN THE ESTABLISHED LANE AND POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA - On Sept. 18 at approximately 2:25 a.m., Max Fiore, 20, of 105 Dennison Road, Essex was traveling southbound on Route 9 in the area of the Exit 9 on-ramp in Haddam, in a 1992 Subaru Legacy. Fiore allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and drifted off the left-hand side of the roadway, struck a ditch in the median, then swerved back across to the opposite side of the road and then off into the woods. Minor damage was caused to the roof and front-end of the vehicle. Fiore failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests that were administered by police at the scene, and was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI, failure to drive in the established lane, and possession of marijuana. No injuries were reported.
