Criminal Impersonation, Identity Theft, Fraudulent Rx, Harassment, Burglaries and Larcenies

Haddam area police activity reports.

The Haddam Resident Troopers' Office and the Connecticut State Police, Troop F, Westbrook report the following incidents:

MOTOR-VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES - On Aug. 15 at approximately 4:37 p.m., Bethanne Stehr, 17, of Hidden Lake Road, Higganum was traveling northbound on Route 81 in the area of Hubbard Road in Haddam in a 1993 Buick Century. Stehr lost control of the vehicle on wet pavement and struck an embankment off the right side of the roadway. She was transported to Middlesex Memorial Hospital with complaint of neck and back pain. The vehicle sustained heavy undercarriage damage and had to be towed from the scene.

TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT - On Aug. 16 at approximately 6:37 p.m., Ruddy Reyes, 24, of High Top Circle, Hamden was traveling westbound on Bridge Road, in the area of Camp Bethel Road in Haddam, in a 2001 Sterling Ace work truck. Michael Rantz, 42, no street address given, Moodus, was traveling eastbound in a 2002 Chevy S-10. The vehicles collided, with damage being caused to the entire left side of Rantz's truck. No damage was reported on Reyes' truck. No injuries were reported.

CRIMINAL VIOLATION OF A PROTECTIVE ORDER - On Aug. 16 at approximately 10:44 p.m., police were called to respond to a report of a domestic disturbance in progress at a Rock Landing Road, Haddam Neck. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Dylan Miller, 20, of 255 Rock Landing Road, Haddam Neck. Miller was charged with criminal violation of a protective order and 3rd-degree assault, and given a court date of 8/17/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

OUT-OF-STATE WARRANT FOR VIOLATION OF PROBATION - On Aug. 18 at approximately 10:04 a.m.,  the DMV Truck Squad stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on the trailer. A check of the driver's Tennessee ID card revealed that there was an active warrant out of that state. Marvin Lee Jones, 40, of 957 Bristol Caverns Highway, Bristol, TN, was arrested and transported to Troop F, processed and held on a $200,000 bond, pending a court appearance at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 8/19/11.

CRIMINAL IMPERSONATION, IDENTITY THEFT AND ATTEMPTING TO OBTAIN PRESCRIPTION DRUGS BY FRAUD - On Aug. 18 at 1:56 p.m., the Deep River Resident Troopers' Office began an investigation of a fraudulent attempt to obtain prescription drugs at Walgreen's Pharmacy in Deep River. When police arrived, the suspect had already left the scene. Through video surveillance, police were later able to identify the person involved, who was reported to have impersonated an employee of a local doctor's office, using the information of another person to obtain a narcotic prescription. Cheryl Lynch, 45, of 31 Turkey Hill Road, Chester, was later located by police at her residence, placed under arrest and charged with two counts of criminal impersonation, identity theft and attempting to obtain prescription drugs by fraud. Lynch was transported to Troop F in Westbrook, processed and released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in court on 9/13/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH EVADING - On Aug. 18 at approximately 5:34 p.m., Daniel Datchelet, 41, of Thornwood Road, Higganum was traveling southbound on Route 9, just north of Exit 11 in Haddam in a 2005 Honda Accord. Another vehicle, described as a purple Chrysler PT-Cruiser with a kayak mounted on top and being operated by a white male approximately 45 years of age, was traveling in the left of the two lanes, alongside of Datchelet's vehicle. It was reported that the PT-Cruiser then entered into the right lane of the highway, striking Datchelet's vehicle in the left front fender, and then drove off. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact Trooper Matthew Weber at the Connecticut State Police, Troop F in Westbrook at 860-399-2100 or 1-800-256-5761.

BREACH OF PEACE - On Aug. 20, Scott Panzera, 41, of 47 Ironworks Road, Killingworth, was arrested and charged with breach of peace, after police recieved a 911 call and complaint from a Church Hill Road, Haddam resident. Panzera was processed and released on a $2,500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 8/22/11.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Aug. 21 at approximately 12:10 a.m., Stephen Wang, 27, of 81 Meetinghouse Road, Haddam, was traveling southbound on Walkley Hill Road in Haddam in a 2005 Honda Civic, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a mailbox, breaking the granite post it was mounted on. Wang subsequently failed standardized sobriety tests that were administered by police and was arrested and charged with the above. No injuries were reported.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. TREE STUMP - On Aug. 21 at approximately 1:48 a.m., Erin Snow, 23, of Depot Hill Road, Cobalt was traveling westbound on Albert Wiese Road in Higganum, in a 2002 Honda Accord, when she veered off of the right-hand shoulder of the road and struck a tree stump. No injuries were reported.

SECOND-DEGREE HARASSMENT - On Aug. 21 at 9:40 p.m., Alexander Passavant, 47, of 43 Stowe Street, Middlefield was arrested and charged with the above, after being warned by police to stop harassing text messages directed at a Nedobity Road, Higganum resident. Passavant was processed and released on a $1,500 non-surety bond and given a court date of 9/7/11 at Middlesex Superior Court.

FAILURE TO DRIVE  IN THE ESTABLISHED LANE - On Aug. 22 at approximately 2:13 a.m., Cara Webber, 19, of Wiese Albert Road, Higganum was traveling southbound on Foot Hills Road, Haddam in a 1996 Nissan Maxima, when she lost control of the vehicle and went off the roadway, striking a tree. Weber was transported to Hartford Hospital with injuries. Police issued Weber an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane and failure to wear a seat-belt.

BURGLARY AND LARCENY - On Sept. 1, sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., unknown person(s) entered an unlocked garage at a Brault Hill Road, Haddam residence, and stole a Porter cable air compressor and two DeWalt drills. The case is under investigation.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. METAL BEAM GUARDRAIL - On Sept. 3 at approximately 10:21 a.m., Theodore Lorenc, 67, of Boulder Dell Road, Haddam was traveling northbound on Route 154 in the area of Thayer Road Extension in Haddam, driving a 2008 Chevy Silverado. Lorence lost control of the vehicle and struck a metal beam guardrail and some small trees along the right-hand shoulder of the road. No injuries were reported.

LARCENY OF A GENERATOR - On Sept. 3, the Chester Resident Troopers' Office was called to investigate the theft of a Honda generator from Railroad Avenue in Chester. The generator had been chained to a utility pole for service during outages caused by Hurricane Irene. Anyone with possible information that could help police in this investigation is asked to contact Trooper Ewing at the Chester Resident Troopers' Office at 860-526-3605.

BURGLARY AND LARCENY - On Sept. 8, State Police from the Troop F barracks were dispatched to investigate a residential burglary that occurred at a Brainard Hill Road address. It is believed that the burglary took place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Forced entry was gained by smashing a window on a side entry door, which led to the basement. Access to the first floor of the home was gained by breaking-in the door at the top of the basement steps. A Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, Play Station-3 game console and six games, and jewelry were among items stolen. Anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious or may have any information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact the Connecticut State Police, Troop F at 860-399-2100 or 1-800-256-5761.
