Conspiracy, Reckless Endangerment, DUI, Evading and Interfering with Police

Haddam area police activity reports for the week.

The Haddam Resident Troopers' office and the Connecticut State Police, Troop F in Westbrook report the following incidents:

EVADING, DUI, FAILURE TO DRIVE IN THE ESTABLISHED LANE AND INTERFERING WITH POLICE - On July 23, Joseph Ranen, 49, of 8 Neffs Corner Road, Higganum, was reportedly involved in a vehicle vs. wire-rope guardrail accident while traveling along Route 9 northbound in Haddam between exits 7 and 8. The accused then ran from the scene and was later located in the woods on the southbound side of Route 9. Police say Ranen exhibited signs of intoxication and was transported to Troop F in Westbrook for processing, but refused to submit to a breathalyzer-test. He was eventually released on a $1,000 cash bond and given a court date of 8/5/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

BREACH OF PEACE, CONSPIRACY AND SECOND-DEGREE RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT - On July 24, Ryan Carey, 19, of 93 Church Hill Road, Haddam, turned himself in to the Troop F barracks in Westbrook based on an outstanding arrest warrant. Carey was processed in accordance to standard State Police procedures, released on a written promise to appear and scheduled to appear in Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 8/15/11.

BURGLARY AND LARCENY - On July 28, police were called to investigate a residential burglary on Brainerd Hill Road in Higganum. Unknown person(s) broke into a home through a rear entrance door and stole two TV's and multiple DVD's and VHS tapes. The incident occurred between Thursday, July 28th and Friday, July 29th. Anyone with possible information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact Haddam Resident Trooper, TFC Enrico Milardo at Troop F at 860-399-2100 or 1-800-256-5761 or the Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-345-2769.

UNSAFE PASSING - On July 29 at approximately 8:56 a.m., Jeannie Wasicki, 61, of Whitewood Drive, East Haddam, driving a 2001 Nissan Maxima, and John Gagnon, 50, of Laurel Road, Essex, driving a 2000 Chevy Silverado, were both traveling along Main Street in Essex. Wasicki attempted to make a right-hand turn into a private parking lot. Gagnon thought she was attempting a left turn, and he then attempted to pass her on the right. As Wasicki made the turn, Gagnon was unable to stop in time and struck her vehicle. No injuries were reported.
