Computer Stolen from Higganum Church, DUI and Operating an Unregistered Motor-Vehicle

Haddam and Higganum area police activity reports.

 

The Haddam Resident Troopers' Office and the Connecticut State Police, Troop F in Westbrook report the following incidents:


OPERATING AN UNREGISTERED MOTOR-VEHICLE AND FAILURE TO YIELD THE RIGHT-OF-WAY AT A COMMERCIAL DRIVEWAY - On March 21st at approximately 1:58 p.m., Jefferson Chapman, 40, of Winter Avenue, Deep River was traveling westbound on Bridge Road (Route 82) in a 2006 Isuzu truck, just east of Route 154 in Haddam. Muhammad Jabarkhail, 37, of Ford Drive, Old Saybrook was attempting to turn right onto Bridge Road from a commercial driveway, operating a 1993 Toyota Camry. As Jabarkhail pulled out onto Bridge Road, his vehicle was impacted in the rear by Chapman's vehicle. No injuries were reported, and there was no visible damage to either vehicle, according to police. Jabarkhail was found at fault for the collision and charged with the above violations.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On March 22nd at approximately 11:37 p.m., police were out conducting DUI enforcement efforts and observed a suspicious vehicle traveling along an abandoned town dirt road. After initiating a motor-vehicle stop, it was discovered that the operator of the vehicle had been drinking. Stanley Malinowski, 40, of 245 Kelsey Hill Road, Deep River failed the standardized field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI. Malinowski was later released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 4/4/12.

FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT - On March 25th, Geoffrey Riggio, 28, of 64 Roast Meat Hill Road, Killingworth was arrested, pursuant to a PRAWN (Paperless Re-arrest Warrant Network) warrant, for failure to appear in court. Riggio was given a court date of 4/5/12 at Hartford Superior Court. He is also facing previous charges for several violations related to a motor-vehicle stop made by police on Route 9 in Haddam on 2/17/12. Riggio was scheduled to appear for those charges at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 3/28/12.

LARCENY FROM A CHURCH - As of March 27th, police continue to investigate the theft of a Sony laptop computer, valued at approximately $1,500 that was taken from the office of St. Peter's Church on St. Peter's Lane in Higganum. According to Father Jan Swiderski, pastor of the church, the computer was originally reported missing sometime between Friday, Feb. 17th at approximately 3:00 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 20th at 9:00 a.m. A roll of stamps worth approximately $40 was also missing from the office. Anyone with possible information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact the Connecticut State Police, Troop F in Westbrook at 860-399-2100.
