Burglary, Larceny, Theft of a Motor Vehicle

East Haddam Police Activity Reports Jan. 24-31

East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K, report the following incidents:

BURGLARY — The East Haddam Resident Troopers and East Haddam Police are investigating a burglary into the Grandview Camp Resort at 89 North Moodus Road,  Moodus. Anyone with information is asked to contact (860) 537-7500.

FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT — On Jan 24, Alexander Wilcox, 22, of 129 Falls Road, Moodus, was located at home by police and arrested for an active warrant for second-degree failure to appear in court. Wilcox was taken into custody without incident.

TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS — On Jan. 26, at 3:34 p.m., Michael Kerr, 45, of Sheepskin Hollow Road, East Haddam, was traveling westbound on Mount Parnassus Road in East Haddam in his 1998 Land Rover Discovery when he lost control of his vehicle on a snow-covered road and struck a snowbank, causing his vehicle to roll over onto its side. No injuries were reported, however the vehicle was towed from the scene. Police issued Kerr a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

LARCENY — On Jan. 26, East Haddam Police were called to investigate the theft of a laptop computer and a digital camera from a residence on Clark Gates Road, Moodus. The items were reported missing sometime between Jan. 23 and 26. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Craig Mansfield at (860) 873-1226.

TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT — On Jan. 26, Bradford Jones, 29, of Cardinal Road, East Lyme, was traveling eastbound on Route 82 in East Haddam in a 2002 Honda Accord at 10:22 a.m. William Harris, 72, of Wentworth Road, Haddam Neck, driving a 1994 Toyota Corolla, was attempting to make a left turn from Mount Parnassus Road, when he struck Jones' vehicle. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles sustained only minor damage.

THEFT OF A MOTOR VEHICLE — On Jan. 28, a resident from Southwinds Road, Moodus, reported a locked vehicle with an anti-theft steering wheel device, stolen from a garage. Police are investigating.

TWO-CAR ACCIDENT — On Jan. 28, Janette Lochowski, 51, of Wickham Road, East Haddam, was traveling westbound on School Drive in Moodus, in a 2008 Subaru Forester 8FF at 3:43 p.m. Donald Yankowski, 21, of Shanighan Road, East Haddam, driving a 1992 Honda Accord, pulled out of the school parking lot and struck Lochowski's vehicle. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene, however no injuries were reported.

FAILURE TO GRANT THE RIGHT-OF-WAY — On Jan. 30, Christine Briggs, 69, of Falls-Bashan Road, Moodus, was attempting to exit a private driveway at 11:30 a.m., in a 2009 Toyota Camry. Christine Atkins, 58, of Ridge Road, East Haddam, was traveling along Moodus-Leesville Road in Moodus in a 2010 Cadillac SRX. As Briggs was backing out, she struck Atkins' vehicle. No injuries were reported, but police issued Briggs a written warning for failure to grant the right-of-way at a private drive.

MINOR TWO-CAR ACCIDENT — On Jan. 31 at 7:40 a.m., Stephen Sibley, 47, of (no street address given) Moodus, driving a 2009 Chevy Silverado, and Marie Forsyth, 47, of Barberry Lane, Moodus, driving a 2007 Chevy Tahoe LT, were traveling in opposite directions on Andrews Road in Moodus, when both vehicles made contact, damaging driver's side mirrors on both vehicles. No injuries were reported, and neither driver was issued an infraction, as police determined narrow road conditions (due to heavy snow accumulation on both sides of the roadway) was a major factor.
