Burglaries, Stolen Motorcycle, Phone Scam and Breach of Peace

East Haddam Police Activity Reports, July 7-14.

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K report the following incidents:

PHONE SCAM - On July 8, East Haddam Police received a call from two East Haddam-Moodus Road, Moodus residents, reporting a phone scam. It was reported that a male caller, calling from Mexico, informed the residents that a family member of theirs was in a Mexican jail and required $7,500 for bail costs. The Moodus residents believed this request to be true, and wired the money via Western-Union. It was later discovered that the relative in question was not in Mexico, and the case is under investigation.

LARCENY OF A MOTORCYCLE - On July 9, a Leesville Road, Moodus resident reported a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R 1000cc motorcycle, black and red in color, missing from the residence. Anyone with possible information is asked to contact Corporal Karabeinikoff at the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-873-1226.

TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT - On July 9, at approximately 11:08 a.m., Heather Ingebretsen, 25, of Mount Parnassus Road, East Haddam, driving a 2002 Nissan Altima, and Robert Cumming, 78, of Moodus-Leesville Road, Moodus, driving a 2001 Mazda Millenia, were involved in a two-car motor-vehicle accident on Moodus-Leesville Road. No injuries were reported, but police issued Cumming a written warning for unsafe movement of a motor vehicle.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On July 10, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Meghan Waite, 26, of 6 Countryside Lane, East Haddam, was arrested and charged for disorderly conduct. Waite was released on a $500 non-surety bond, and was given a court date of 7/11/11 at Middlesex Superior Court.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On July 10, at approximately 3:10 a.m., Kyle Casner, 20, of 23 Cedar Street, Ansonia, was arrested and charged with DUI, improper parking, and failure to drive upon the right. Casner was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court on 7/27/11.

BREACH OF PEACE - On July 10, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Brian Michalski, 19, of East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike, Moodus, was arrested and charged with breach of peace after reportedly causing a disturbance in the neighborhood. Michalski was released on a $500 non-surety bond and given a court date of 7/19/11 at Middlesex Superior Court.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY - On July 10, State Police were called to investigate the report of a residential burglary on Town Street in East Haddam, and the case is under investigation.

BURGLARY AND LARCENY - On July 10, State Police were called to the Grandview Resort Campground on North Moodus Road. Sometime between 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 and 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, unknown person(s) reportedly gained entry to the campground's main hotel. Entry was gained through the 3rd-floor fire escape, and two 'Gulf' (electrical) signs and a golf bag with clubs were reported to be stolen, worth an estimated $1,150. Police are investigating the incident.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. UTILITY POLE - On July 14, at approximately 7:14 a.m., Kenneth Pinard, 61, of no street address given, Boothbay, Maine, was traveling northbound on A.P. Gates Road in East Haddam in a 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he struck a utility pole. No injuries were reported.
