Breaking & Entering, Sale of Narcotics, Vandalism and Criminal Mischief

East Haddam area police activity reports.

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:

BREAKING AND ENTERING - On Sept. 23 at approximately 3:18 a.m., unknown person(s) forcibly entered Shagbark's Lumber & Farm Supply on Mount Parnassus Road in East Haddam. Entry was gained by prying the door open in the area of the bird-supply room. Anyone who may have information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact the Connecticut State Police, Troop K at 860-537-7500, ext. 4061.

THEFT OF SERVICES - On Sept. 24 at 4:51 p.m., East Haddam Police were called to investigate a complaint of theft of services by a business owner on Sheepskin Hollow Road in East Haddam.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS - On Sept. 24 at approximately 10:20 p.m., police observed a vehicle parked in a suspicious location in the lower parking lot of Nichols' Field on Route 149 in Moodus. The operator of the vehicle, Michael Whitty, 24, of 91 Ray Hill Road, East Haddam was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI, after failing Standardized Sobriety Tests administered by police. Whitty was transported to Troop K, processed and released on a $500 non-surety bond, and scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.on 10/5/11.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. UTILITY POLE - On Sept. 25 at approximately 9:48 a.m., Sarah Peckham, 38, of Babcock Road, East Haddam, was traveling westbound on Clark Hill Road in a 2009 Chevy Aveo, when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole. Peckham and two children who were passengers in the car were transported to the Marlborough Emergency Clinic in Marlborough for evaluation.

LARCENY - On Sept. 27 at 10:00 a.m., police received a complaint of an iPod being stolen from a Rebecca Lane residence, and the case is under investigation.

SALE OF NARCOTICS - On Sept. 27 at 2:00 p.m., police observed a vehicle being driven on North Moodus Road in the area of Clark Gates Road in Moodus, and recognized the operator as having an active warrant in place. Police pulled the vehicle over and arrested David Seaquist, 19, of 103 North Moodus Road, Moodus, based on the active warrant. Seaquist was processed and released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and given a court date of 10/4/11 at Middlesex Superior Court. 

BICYCLE THEFT AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL - On Sept. 27 at 7:28 p.m., the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office received a report of a stolen bicycle from the Nathan Hale-Ray Middle School grounds on Clark Gates Road in Moodus, sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. The bike, a red and white 20" Dynacraft BMX which had been left parked and locked, was recovered the following day. Police arrested two juveniles as a result of this incident, and they were each charged with 6th-degree larceny.

VANDALISM AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - On Sept. 28 at 1:03 p.m., East Haddam Police were called to investigate a report of grafitti that was discovered on the back of the bath house at the East Haddam Town Beach on East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike, and the case is under investigation. Anyone with possible information is asked to call the East Haddam Resident Troopers' Office at 860-873-1226, or the Confidential Tip Line at 860-873-5013.
