Barn Fire in Haddam Severely Injures Horse

Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a barn fire in Higganum early Monday night.

A fire broke out on Monday night at 379 Wiese Albert Road in the Higganum section of Haddam. Crews were called in at 6:55 p.m. to a fully involved fire at a 25X12 foot barn on the property at the above address.

Two horses, which resided in the barn, were outside when crews arrived said Bob Norton, Public Relations Liaison of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company. One of the horses had to be put down due to the severity of its injuries by a vet that arrived on the scene. The other horse was reported in "fine condition."

The homeowner received minor burns while attempting to get the horses out of the barn.
